🖊️ Eve's notes...
I know we are almost in February, but I am going to wish you a happy 2026 anyway, because…why not? The world feels a bit mad, to be honest, and we can’t have too many good wishes, is how I look at it.
Let's talk about money. Yours and mine.
Legislation limits how much a broker can make from medical aid advice: a grand total of R1,440 per year. That's it. For that money, they need to find clients (hundreds of them!), do thorough needs analysis, help with claim disputes, manage paperwork, stay accredited, and attend complex training for every scheme they represent. All that, for R1,440/yr (at most!).
In contrast, a broker selling you a life or investment policy could easily make R50,000 on the deal. As you can imagine, most (not all) brokers focus on life insurance and tack medical aid on as an afterthought—just to keep clients from straying to another broker and taking the other lucrative insurance business with them.
Because brokers are not incentivised to help you find the best plan for your needs, we have the mess we have: few people are on the optimal plan, fewer have the right gap cover, no one understands their benefits and the schemes get away with a lot of nonsense. (Heaven forbid your broker is actually employed by the administrator of your scheme… talk about misaligned incentives…how that is even legal I do not know.)
This is all completely twisted: your health insurance decisions could end up being literally life saving and thus demand our highest attention. Also…medical aid is flipping expensive.
My partner and I have a solution. There is a model where a broker makes worthwhile money and a client gets excellent service, and it’s old-school: focus, systems, and deep experience. My partner Ginette is a powerhouse in the world of healthcare cover (no life or investment), and runs a large team of very capable individuals in her brokerage. I’m not a wallflower either: I bring my knowledge, my systems (key!), my readers and my passion.
Our goal is simple: In 2026 we are building a dominant health cover brokerage by being niched, focussed and obsessed with getting you on the right health cover plan.
Here's what proper attention to medical aid looks like:
- Recently helped optimise a plan for an adult and two children. They moved to a higher plan, we pulled some magic out of hats, and the parent ended up saving R18,000 per year for superbly better benefits. Their previous broker never mentioned this option existed.
- An elderly couple were given the wrong advice by their medical scheme and ended up paying R3,000/month in unfair Late Joiner Penalties – for 14 years! We fixed that problem, which didn’t just mean they “save money”, it meant they “got to stay on a medical aid”. Otherwise, it was getting too expensive and they wanted to cancel. (That was a good day, to be honest!)
You deserve this type of attention too! When you appoint us (it's free!), we ask you about the info that matters, we think about it, and we give you a detailed analysis of all your options in an easy-to-understand report. You get medical aid clarity (probably for the first time?).
Ready to see how much you could save?
Fill in the quick form here (or just hit reply to this email), and we'll send you the broker appointment form. Once that's sorted, we'll send you a detailed assessment of your current plan within 2-3 days. We'll show you exactly where you're overpaying and what better options exist.
It's free, it will take you 2 minutes, and you might save thousands.
Let's do this!
PS: I am also changing up this newsletter! I don’t want to say too much about it now, but please look out for a redesigned newsletter in your inbox at 5:51 am this coming Monday, called The Daily Shift.
PPS. My partner is Ginette de Villiers of MC de Villiers Brokers (FSP: 7241). She's fully accredited with 20+ years of experience. I'm completing my own accreditation (probably April/May), but we're ready to help you right now.
